Best Day Ever

Gavin and I had such a great day. He was very creative this morning and made the masterpiece below.

We went exploring in the neighborhood and found some great places to ride his Razor scooter. It was such a lovely day and wonderful to be outside in just sweaters in January!

We had lunch at Sonic. While we were waiting for our food we created a "Michael Jackson" station on Pandora and sang "Beat It", "Thriller" and "Eye of the Tiger" as loud as we could in the car. Gavin then made "poop piles" with his grape slush.

After lunch we checked out the party store and bought some valentines and balloons. Earlier today Gavin earned a prize on bookadventure.com which was a booklet on making balloon animals. When we got home Gavin sat down and learned how to make balloon dogs, swords and dinosaurs. It is the cutest thing ever.

So much fun with my beautiful, imaginative, intelligent, wonderful boy!

It was a really fun day. We did this thing where I got points for reading and I used the points for something amazing. I also went riding on my Razor scooter. After that we went to Sonic to eat and then we went to the party store and then after that we went to the grocery store and then after the grocery store home. We blew up all these cool balloons because that was what I used my points for, how to make balloon animals. We blew up balloons for the rest of the night. The End.

My Artist

Gavin has really taken in interest in art, drawing and coloring the last few weeks. He and daddy spend hours working in their sketchbooks. Perhaps he does have some of daddy's artistic talents after all. Art is also now one of his favorite subjects in school. For our last lesson we studied Monet's water lily paintings and he created his own painting in the style of Monet.

Projects

I love Gavin's projects. Today it was about balancing crayons. Much time and patience went into his masterpiece.

It was cool, it took about a half an hour. I used my remote control droid to knock it over when it was done.

Art Walk

We spent a wonderful evening at the Scottsdale Art Walk. First a lovely dinner at Buca di Beppo and then a stroll through a variety of art galleries. Gavin was excited to see some pieces by his favorite artist Joan Miro as well as Victor Vasarely one of the artists he has studied in his art lessons. Kyle loved the drawings by Andrew Wyeth. Gavin was also fascinated with the glasswork particularly some jellyfish sculptures by Lord Crosbie. A perfect night with my wonderful family.

I enjoyed the evening quite a bit, mostly the joy of being able to hang out with family. I was moved by the Wyeth sketches and still feel saddened by his death this summer. I also enjoyed the Rockwell, Miro and Warhol prints. There is something inspirational about seeing the works in the sizes in which they were created instead of being shrunk down for a book or computer. Dinner was delicious (which was shocking, because the last time we went there I wasn't so happy). I am reminded what a grown-up little boy we have who looks at all of the art and sees its beauty. In fact, he was the only child there and behaved just as well (if not better) than the adults. Life is good.

There was a lot, a lot of good artwork there. There was one with holes and one that was made out of wood called Lineage. I had a lot of fun.
